Odds are a funny thing.
Like with the whole Mega Millions jackpot on Friday, featured as “breaking news” on nightly newscasts across the country with anchors and cameramen alike holding up their “lucky” tickets despite the 176 million-to-1 odds.
Those same news crews were more likely to get struck by lightning (280,000-to-1), or even attacked by a shark (11.5 million-to-1) before winning the lottery. Heck, they probably have a better chance of winning the Super Bowl next year.
A better chance than the New York Giants even.
I mean, after winning the Super Bowl earlier this year, you’d think the New York Giants would be among the favorites to win the Super Bowl next year.
Think again.
According to the latest odds released by MGM Resorts International and broadcast by ESPN on Friday night, the Green Bay Packers are the favorites to win the Lombardi Trophy at 5-1. Other teams of note, according to ESPN’s infographic, were: New England (6-1), New Orleans (6-1), San Francisco (8-1), Baltimore (8-1), Houston (8-1), Philadelphia (10-1) and Denver (10-1).
The Broncos are more likely to win the Super Bowl than the team that just won it? Just because of Peyton Manning? The broken down of the two Mannings, who hasn’t played in a year, but is really worth the Broncos jumping from 75-1 to 10-1 with one signing?
Did you see the receiving corps Tim Tebow had last year? That offense didn’t even have a legit Pro Bowler on it. (This is why I prefer to just play poker online, rather than gamble my money away on football games.)
And how about ESPN, totally leaving the champions off their infographic, which left you wondering where the Giants actually are in the futures betting scenario?
