I think it’s safe to say “Let’s go Kings,” even if you don’t like the Kings, because frankly they came out of nowhere this season. The Kings had a rough season this year, but they managed to just make into the playoffs this post-season. Wherein they proved once again that it doesn’t matter how you get to the Stanley Cup, just that you get there. They took out number one seed Vancouver Canucks in four games, and then did it again with the number 2 team in the West, by taking out the St. Louis Blues in four consecutive games. Even if you don’t like the Kings, even if you hate the Kings, you have to admit that is an impressive feat for a team that was seeded 8th at the beginning of the playoffs.
There’s a reason why playoff games are best of seven. For one it makes it a little bit more interesting, and means more hockey for fans, and the other reason is because teams play harder when they get to the playoffs since the chance to get the cup is at stake. The La Kings are not messing around this playoff season, since they swept two top seeded teams right after another.
The West is probably going to be looking at an interesting Western Conference finals, with the Kings locked and ready to take their Conference, the Coyotes have nearly defeated the Predators as their series is 3-1, with game five tonight at Phoenix. If the Coyotes win this game, they’ll go on to fight the Kings in the Conference finals, as the two lower seeded teams will be the only Western Teams left standing.
Over on the other side of the country, the Capitals and the New York Rangers are locked in a fierce battle with the series tied 2-2. The Rangers have been strong all season, they were first to clinch and their goalie Lundqvist is the top goalie in the league right now, so it’s going to take a lot of offensive strategy to defeat the man between the pipes.
As for the other series, the tables have turned for the Flyers after their impressive upset against the Penguins in the first round, because they are now on the losing end of a 3-1 series lead. The Flyers are having trouble getting pass Brodeur, and now Claude Giroux has been suspended one game for his illegal hit on Zubrus. If they want to advance to the conference final, they are going to have to come hard at the net tomorrow, but as of right now the odds are in the Devils favor.
