While the other three conferences have wrapped up, we are still waiting to see who will come out the victor in the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals Semi-finals round. To refresh your memory of the outcome of the other series, The Kings took the St. Louis Blues in a sweep of four games, Coyotes defeated the Predators 4-1, which the New Jersey Devils seemed to mimic when they beat the Philadelphia Flyers on home ice last night. With the Coyotes and the Kings coming out as victors in the West, that leaves the rest of the hockey world waiting to see who the Devils will match up against for the Prince of Wales Trophy in the Eastern Conference Final.
As of right now the odds are in the Rangers favor as they lead their series against the Caps 3-2, and if they win tonight’s game they are set to go against the Devils in the final conference round. If the Caps win, the series will go into a game seven showdown. Both teams have been playing really well, but the Rangers have had the upper hand. The Rangers have been on top all season, and have a ridiculously good goalie in the form of Henrik Lundqvist (the dude is like a brick wall). The Rangers have not stopped their fight for the cup all season, so they are not going to back down now. There is no doubt in my mind that if they go on to the conference game, they will crush the Devils and move onto the Cup Series. Brodeur is good, but I think Lundqvist just might be better.
As of right now, the Rangers have to take it one game at a time in order to beat the Caps tonight first. Let’s not leave the Caps out of the running either. The playoff runs differently than regular season games, and the Caps have been able to come back from a less than stellar regular season run to make it this far into the playoffs, so they are not going to back down tonight. It should be an interesting battle tonight, and if the Caps push back against the Rangers it may not be the last battle the two teams fight before a winner is named.
