What’s new with hockey?

Well in case you’ve been living under a rock, or you just don’t care about the sport (like most people in america it seems) nothing is going on with hockey.  Right now we should be preparing for pre-season NHL games and amping up for the upcoming season. But instead fans are left waiting for the NHLPA and the league owners to make a decision to come to an agreement for a new CBA so the season can start. At this rate I’m starting to have flashbacks about being in middle school when there was no hockey at all and it was terrible. This better not happen!

So what progress have the two parties made so far? Well to be honest, not much. Pre-season has been cancelled, no word on the delay of the open yet but you can guarantee it’s probably not going to happen. Considering that opening is still scheduled for next Thursday. The league has also lost $100 million so far with the lockout so arguing about money is making the NHL lose money. It’s essentially a lose-lose situation right now.

The two parties met on three different occasions this weekend and had internal discussions yesterday. Today there was another meeting scheduled for two hours but no progress has been reported. Things are not looking good for hockey fans right now. I guess it’s time to focus on the AHL.
