Locked out no more!

January 13, 2013

Today is a good day to be a hockey fan. We have suffered for months at the hands of negotiations, but now all our patience to see the game we love so much has paid off. Early last Sunday it was announced that the league and the players had agreed to a tentative CBA, and the lockout was finally over. Well not quite. The Board of Governors had to approve the plan, which they did last Wednesday and the NHLPA also had to approve...

NHL Season still not happening

NHL Season still not happening

Don’t freak out fans, the cancellation of the NHL hockey season has not been officially announced but it’s honestly only a matter of time.  If you can sift through all the legalese in the NHLPA and NHL statements you’ll find that absolutely nothing has been happening. They continue to fight about money and now it may lead to a long drawn out legal battle. The NHLPA had the players vote this week on a disclaimer of interest which would allow them to dissolve the union. They voted yes...

Seriously, just stick to the AHL

Seriously, just stick to the AHL

The NHL is STILL in a lockout. Raise your hand if you’re a frustrated fan. Which is probably everyone. Most of the “news” we have been hearing about the negotiations isn’t really news. By which, nothing is really happening. The NHLPA and the owners continue to talk, and talk, and disagree but nothing has resolved yet. It’s almost December and no NHL hockey has been played yet.  Which is sad and gives fans a lot of bad deja vu from the 2004-2005 season. The...

Kings Announcer Dies

It’s a bad time to be a hockey fan right now with the lockout still ongoing. They have even brought in a mediator without any success, so fans are still disappointed.  It’s an even worse time to be an LA Kings fans. Not only has their fan momentum dropped since the lockout ( not surprisingly) but the Kings haven’t really gotten to enjoy bragging rights this season since they haven’t played since they won the cup.In recent news even more bad news has come...

NHL Cancels Winter Classic

NHL Cancels Winter Classic

Hockey is unfortunately STILL in a lockout, and things are continuing to look bad. Recently the league decided to cancel the Winter Classic, which was set to take place at Michigan State (the biggest venue to date). The NHL stated that the event will not be completely canceled, but it will not occur this year, but rather next season. The good news is that the NHL and the player’s association finally agreed to meet again to try, once again, to come to an agreement....

Is the lockout coming to an end?

Is the lockout coming to an end?

So as I was blogging for broad street buzz earlier complaining about nothing really happening with the negotiation talks, something actually was happening. Of course as soon as I tweeted the link to my article,  news broke out about a new potential deal between the NHLPA and the Owners. It was the league who actually proposed the new deal. The proposal is a 50/50 split of hockey related revenue that would be valid for at least six years. Their purpose for this proposal is...

What’s new with hockey?

What’s new with hockey?

Well in case you’ve been living under a rock, or you just don’t care about the sport (like most people in america it seems) nothing is going on with hockey.  Right now we should be preparing for pre-season NHL games and amping up for the upcoming season. But instead fans are left waiting for the NHLPA and the league owners to make a decision to come to an agreement for a new CBA so the season can start. At this rate I’m starting to...

So since the NHL has gone to a lockout, while the league owners and the NHLPA still agrue over who gets move money a lot of the players have been heading home to Europe and Russia to play for leagues over there. So what about the Candian and American players? Well those who aren’t signing with European teams for the duration of the lockout have the option to head to the minor league affiliates. There are a lot of young players that have been sent...

NHL lockout confirmed

NHL lockout confirmed

Breaking news, well not really because most fans were just waiting for this to be announced. The current NHL CBA has expired and no agreement has been reached. The Owner’s and the players association both did not even meet today which spelled trouble for the league. The reason why was because both parties are still digesting proposals and need some more time before making the next move. As of right now this means no training camp or pre-season games scheduling until a agreement can be...

Lockout inevitable

Lockout inevitable

The current CBA expires this Saturday, but the NHLPA and the Owner’s still have not come to an agreement. Which is just fantastic for all hockey fans to hear. Things are not looking good for the NHL right now. The negotiations to establish a new CBA actually went to a standstill last weekend and the two parties refused to talk to each other. Luckily they came back together this week, especially yesterday when new proposals were throw out in an attempt to prevent a...
