Week 17 Preview: Do or Die for Cowboys, Redskins in the NFC East

It all comes down to this. Sunday night, the Cowboys and Redskins face off for the NFC East title and the last remaining NFC playoff spot.  Winner moves on to play in January, loser leaves empty-handed and full of regret. To steal a line from the NBA Playoffs, Win or Go Home. It’s now or never for Cowboys fans, who expect nothing less than at least a playoff appearance every year.  However, after another mediocre season plagued with injuries and full of blown chances,...

RGIII Fined for Wearing Adidas Gear? Really?

RGIII Fined for Wearing Adidas Gear? Really?

After the game against the Ravens during week 14, RGIII came out to the post -game press conference dressed in an Adidas sweat suit. Nike is the official uniform supplier of the NFL this year and apparently that means that you are not allowed to show any sort of logo on your clothes besides the Nike swoosh. For this the NFL fined RGIII $10,000 freaking dollars! Since when is wearing what you want to wear a crime? I know it may date me a...

Don’t Punish Spurs for Benching Stars–Praise Them

Don’t Punish Spurs for Benching Stars–Praise Them

When you consider the success of long-term NBA contenders, there’s perhaps no controversy more irrelevant than the San Antonio Spurs’ decision to bench their stars in their nationally televised contest on a Thursday night in November against the Miami Heat. Coach Greg Popovich’s decision to sit Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Danny Green will be only an afterthought come playoff time, when the Spurs resume sitting in their annual spot atop the Western Conference. At 13-4, San Antonio is only a half...

Dick Vitale, let it go; IU has moved on

Dick Vitale, let it go; IU has moved on

First of all, let me say this: I am not a Dick Vitale hater. The guy’s palpable stoke for college basketball makes me smile every time I hear his self-depricating, slightly-obnoxious-but-loveable commentary. And I appreciate that the guy is so committed to keeping the memory of Jimmy Valvano alive while supporting Valvano’s organization to fight cancer. But as an Indiana University graduate, I have to say his incessant loyalty to Bob Knight has grown a little old. I don’t know if he’s doing the Indiana-North Carolina game...

ESPN Anchor Curses on SportsCenter [VIDEO]

ESPN Anchor Curses on SportsCenter [VIDEO]

Friday Funnies on ESPN’s SportsCenter should have highlighted its own crew Friday after anchor Neil Everett dropped a “son of a bitch” and a “God dang it” as ESPN cut to a commercial break shortly before 11 p.m. Pacific. Everett obviously didn’t realize the cameras were still rolling as ESPN had been previewing its upcoming Friday Funnies but then cut back to anchors Everett and Stan Verrett a couple seconds before the break. Everett was taking notes and was cursing at something that had...

The Bid for Offensive Rookie of the Year

The Bid for Offensive Rookie of the Year

It’s far enough into the season now that we can see things starting to take shape as far as who the front-running teams are for the playoffs and which players are standing out as the superstars of 2012. It’s also clear to see that many of this season’s superstars are rookies. So when it comes time to decide who the Offensive Rookie of the Year is, the Associated Press has a pretty tough decision to make. The clear front runners would have to be...

Broncos Have the AFC West in the Bag

Broncos Have the AFC West in the Bag

With the hardest part of the Broncos schedule now behind them, there is no question that they have the AFC west wrapped up in a nice little package. They are on a 3 game winning streak and they now have one of the easiest schedules in the NFL for the last half of the season. Having the easiest schedule may not have meant much last year, but with Peyton Manning at the helm and a defense that is coming into their own there is...

NHL Lockout in full effect

NHL Lockout in full effect

So…the NHLPA dropped the ball on getting this Collective Bargaining agreement signed. After the league & its owners offered the 50/50 split proposal the player’s association insisted on arguing for their initial proposal. From EARLIER THIS SUMMER! So clearly that didn’t work and talks of negotiations come to a screening halt. Again. Is anyone else getting deja vu from the last lockout? So after the NHLPA rejected the league’s proposal the announcement for October’s games being cancelled was made, which was pretty obvious to everyone since it’s the...

Elite Program, No Respect

October 21, 2012

A monumental event happened on Saturday afternoon, but the national media has barely mentioned it. The Michigan Wolverines were the first team to reach 900 wins as a college football team. The next closest team to them is Yale. This is a milestone that should be celebrated. Congratulations Michigan Wolverines; from Fielding Yost, who won 6 national championships, to Bo Schembechler, who won 194 games; to Brady Hoke today. You are the class of college football.

Steelers vs. Vikings Across the Pond in 2013, Does England Care?

Steelers vs. Vikings Across the Pond in 2013, Does England Care?

It looks like the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Minnesota Vikings are going to go head to head in London next year along with the Jacksonville Jaguars going against the San Francisco 49er’s. It seems hard to believe that the English are all that intrigued with American football. In fact, I challenge anyone who knows a sports fan from across the pond to ask them what they think of the National Football League. For most of them it is a novelty and nothing more. They don’t know...
