ESPN Anchor Curses on SportsCenter [VIDEO]

ESPN Anchor Curses on SportsCenter [VIDEO]

Friday Funnies on ESPN’s SportsCenter should have highlighted its own crew Friday after anchor Neil Everett dropped a “son of a bitch” and a “God dang it” as ESPN cut to a commercial break shortly before 11 p.m. Pacific. Everett obviously didn’t realize the cameras were still rolling as ESPN had been previewing its upcoming Friday Funnies but then cut back to anchors Everett and Stan Verrett a couple seconds before the break. Everett was taking notes and was cursing at something that had...

Just the Beginning: Yankees, Red Sox Dominate National TV Coverage in 2012

April 20, 2012
AsSeenOnTV

Tired of the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox yet? After Friday’s overblown series opener, which celebrated the 100-year anniversary of Fenway Park and Alex Rodriguez moving into fifth place on the all-time home run list, it’s no shocker many non-AL East fans are already over it. Well, get used to it folks, this is just the beginning. A look at the national broadcasts over the remaining portion of the MLB schedule show the two AL East rivals will be on TV (ESPN,...

Saturday Night Live on Jeremy Lin Coverage

Saturday Night Live on Jeremy Lin Coverage

Saturday Night Live wasted little time piling on ESPN, FOX and the other networks and media outlets for their racial stereo types and slurs in the coverage of New York Knicks star guard Jeremy Lin. Here's the "Politcally Lin-correct" skit from SNL...

ESPN Jeremy Lin Headline: Writer Fired After Racial Slur

February 19, 2012

ESPN Jeremy Lin: ESPN has fired the editor responsible for posting a racial slur in a headline about New York Knicks guard Jeremy Lin on Saturday. ESPN's Kevin Ota made the announcement this morning on the network's media zone page. Ota also mentioned there were inappropriate on-air comments made by announcer Max Bretos and commentator Walt Frazier earlier in the week (a clip of Bretos’s comment is here, and a follow-up apology is here). Bretos was suspended for a month. And I wouldn't expect Frazier, who...

ESPN Displays Racial Slur in Lin Headline

ESPN Displays Racial Slur in Lin Headline

Unless you have an iPad like I do (well, it's now my 2-year-old son's new toy) and were up until 3 a.m. last night, you probably missed this indefensible headline by ESPN following the New York Knicks loss to the Hornets ... (see screenshot on jump.). While the phrase "Chink in the Armor" might fly in some instances, under a photo of Asian-American New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin (not to mention a subhead pointing out his costly turnovers) is completely unacceptable. In fact, this...

ESPN would like to remind you of all the NBA games you won’t get to see

ESPN would like to remind you of all the NBA games you won’t get to see

A bit assertive, no? If you check out the schedule on NBA.com, you just get the first four games that we would get to see if the lockout ended right now. ESPN? Not so much. Instead, they start from the beginning of the season and show you each canceled game. Week. By. Week. Maybe the mothership is just as ticked off as we, the devoted fans, are. Not like that’ll help or anything.

ESPN’s Gottlieb Admits Smoking Marijuana at Oklahoma St., Rips So. Carolina’s Garcia for Same Thing

ESPN’s Gottlieb Admits Smoking Marijuana at Oklahoma St., Rips So. Carolina’s Garcia for Same Thing

Is it just me, or does it feel a little awkward when Doug Gottlieb starts ripping college athletes for their off-the-field issues? Doesn’t it seem just a little hypocritical when a guy who was expelled from Notre Dame for off-court troubles shreds today’s collegiate screw-ups? Listening to Gottlieb ride discraced South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia on Wednesday’s Scott Van Pelt Show kind of gave me that uh-oh feeling, like when your cell phone starts ringing in the middle of your Final Four picks on...

In a class of our own

July 12, 2010

So finally got me a (hand me down) iPhone last week, along with the slick WordPress app that I’m currently using to write this post. In a way I feel like I’m cheating — posting from a phone, on my couch. I also feel like mobile is dumbing down our writing. 140 characters is becoming the norm. Spelling, grammar, punctuation are going out the door. But after watching the home run derby tonight, I realized we’re no longer against cheating or taking shortcuts. Take...

ESPN’s Salary Crunch: Just in case you wanna feel like crap, and hate LeBron some more

ESPN’s Salary Crunch: Just in case you wanna feel like crap, and hate LeBron some more

ESPN just made us hate LeBron James even more. Meet the Salary Crunch, an EastSidePN.com feature that “breaks down statistics from his 2009-10 season and the playoffs to help translate his full salary” and pisses off all us poor fans who can’t even afford to attend an NBA preseason game. The app allows you to enter your sorry wages and see just how long it takes King James to reach that figure, in terms of stats like games played (although games plural won’t come...

The 4 Hs make a difference in sports (and I’m not talking HGH for once)

The 4 Hs make a difference in sports (and I’m not talking HGH for once)

If you’re an avid follower of the Bias, or have had the unfortunate luck of knowing me for an extended period of time, you’ve no doubt heard me rant and rave about everything from HGH to the horrendous officiating in the NBA. But if there’s one thing I bang on more than LeBron James and Joe Crawford, it’s ESPN and the bandwagon media, and how quick they are to judge and dismiss teams after one game, one quarter, even one play at times. But...
