Seriously, just stick to the AHL

Seriously, just stick to the AHL

The NHL is STILL in a lockout. Raise your hand if you’re a frustrated fan. Which is probably everyone. Most of the “news” we have been hearing about the negotiations isn’t really news. By which, nothing is really happening. The NHLPA and the owners continue to talk, and talk, and disagree but nothing has resolved yet. It’s almost December and no NHL hockey has been played yet.  Which is sad and gives fans a lot of bad deja vu from the 2004-2005 season. The...

NHL Cancels Winter Classic

NHL Cancels Winter Classic

Hockey is unfortunately STILL in a lockout, and things are continuing to look bad. Recently the league decided to cancel the Winter Classic, which was set to take place at Michigan State (the biggest venue to date). The NHL stated that the event will not be completely canceled, but it will not occur this year, but rather next season. The good news is that the NHL and the player’s association finally agreed to meet again to try, once again, to come to an agreement....

Is the lockout coming to an end?

Is the lockout coming to an end?

So as I was blogging for broad street buzz earlier complaining about nothing really happening with the negotiation talks, something actually was happening. Of course as soon as I tweeted the link to my article,  news broke out about a new potential deal between the NHLPA and the Owners. It was the league who actually proposed the new deal. The proposal is a 50/50 split of hockey related revenue that would be valid for at least six years. Their purpose for this proposal is...

What’s new with hockey?

What’s new with hockey?

Well in case you’ve been living under a rock, or you just don’t care about the sport (like most people in america it seems) nothing is going on with hockey.  Right now we should be preparing for pre-season NHL games and amping up for the upcoming season. But instead fans are left waiting for the NHLPA and the league owners to make a decision to come to an agreement for a new CBA so the season can start. At this rate I’m starting to...

Lockout inevitable

Lockout inevitable

The current CBA expires this Saturday, but the NHLPA and the Owner’s still have not come to an agreement. Which is just fantastic for all hockey fans to hear. Things are not looking good for the NHL right now. The negotiations to establish a new CBA actually went to a standstill last weekend and the two parties refused to talk to each other. Luckily they came back together this week, especially yesterday when new proposals were throw out in an attempt to prevent a...

NHL lockout is looming ahead

Again, nothing is set in stone, so hockey fans better not be steaming as they read this. So far NO LOCKOUT has been announced, but in lieu of recent events there is the likely fact that it will happen. Philadelphia Flyers owner Ed Snider has even mentioned that he thinks it’s inevitable.  Snider is one of the rare owners who believes the players don’t get paid enough, so if he’s calling it now it’s more than likely that it will happen. Still we’re pretty...

NHL Lockout News

NHL Lockout News

Don’t fret hockey fans, there hasn’t been a player lockout yet, but there is still the potential for one. After a lot of talks and negotiating the NHLPA have finally given their counter proposal to the offensive proposal the league owners first gave. An 11% cut to player right off the bat? That’s ridiculous. So it is obvious why the player’s association took so long to make a counter proposal. Which was patronized by commissioner Bettman when he said, “it’s obvious they took longer...

CBA Negotiations Continue

CBA Negotiations Continue

The collective bargaining agreement negotiations have wrapped up for three days, but things aren’t over yet. The current CBA expires on September 15th, so the object is to come to some sort of agreement before the expiration date. So far, only the league have made demands, which we have seen come at a high price. The initial news of the demands leaked last week, and there was speculation that a potential work stoppage and player lockout could occur.  NHLPA Executive Director stated that even if an...

NHL Work Stoppage?

NHL Work Stoppage?

In the hockey world more free agency news has surfaced. LA has signed Dwight King for another two years, The Caps sign Mike Green for another three years, The Blues have resigned Porter, Peluso and Sonne, and the Buffalo Sabres have signed both Tarnasky and Brennan. This is all well and good, if there is a hockey season come October. Meetings have been happening to talk about what to do about the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) which was determined in the last player lockout,...

NHLPA Says No To Realignment

January 12, 2012
BallHyped Sports Network

After the NHL’s board of governs made the decision to realign the league, hoping for next season, they had to first get consent from the Player’s Association. Alignment has been a topic of discussion in the hockey community lately, and fans have had split decisions on whether or not the alignment makes sense. The NHLPA decided against the alignment and denied consent, which means its back to the drawing board for the board of governs. Since the player’s association has refused to agree to...
