High School Player Breaks Backboard, Again

There’s been a run of high school players breaking backboards on dunks over the past week.

On Thursday night, Devin Thomas of Central Dauphin High School in Harrisburg, Penn., shattered the backboard on an alley-oop dunk against Greencastle-Antrim at Cumberland Valley High School.

Thomas, who has committed to Wake Forest, shattered the backboard with 3:02 left in the third quarter and Central Dauphin leading 39-30.

Because of the shattered backboard and busted rim, the conference final had to be postponed. The game is expected to be completed on Friday.

Thomas’ highlight-reel throwdown came less than a week after West Salem (Ore.) sophomore Alex Roth shattered the backboard in the final seconds of a game against North Salem High last Friday.

You couldn’t tell by the way the fans were celebrating, but it should be noted that Roth and West Salem actually lost the game.

Instead it was North Salem that ended up winning the Central Valley Conference.

But I guess if you’re going to go out, might as well go out with busted backboard.
