Road to Round 2

Other Sports section graphic for Road to Round 2

Out of the 8 series going on in the first round of the Playoffs, so far only 3 of the teams have advanced to the Round 2, Semi-finals. These teams are the St. Louis Blues, The Nashville Predators and the Philadelphia Flyers.

Both the Blues and the Predators almost swept their competitors as they both won their series 4-1, only allowing the Red Wings and the Sharks one game win over them. The series in the West will most likely wrap up in the next game or so. The Canucks, who were thought to also be swept by the LA Kings are still hanging on as their series is at 3-1, in favor of the Kings. The Blackhawks and The Coyotes seemed locked in battle at 3-2, and it might be looking like a Coyote win. Most of the hockey community, at least in the East, are baffled by this upset, since when did the Coyotes get so good?

As for the East, The Flyers are the only Eastern Conference team that has advanced so far. The Flyers were another team that almost swept their rivals, but the Pittsburgh Penguins did have a comeback which lead to a Game 6. Unfortunately for them, the Flyers were prepared to win, which they did with better goal tending and offensive play.

Of the rest of the East Conference Series, the victor has still not been decided. The Capitls and the Bruins are going to a Game 7, so that series will be determined by the next game. The Devils and The Panthers are 3-2, meaning that the Panthers can win it in the next game. A similar situation is occuring in the Rangers/Senators series, where the Sens are trying to destroy the top seed.

The line ups for the next round won’t be released until the first round is officially over, but stay tuned for more information in the next couple of days.
