Are Jets Fans Smarter than Broncos Fans?

Other Sports section graphic for Are Jets Fans Smarter than Broncos Fans?

After a less than perfect outing by Mark Sanchez last Sunday, there is a spark of curiosity in me that wonders if and when Jets fans are going to start chanting for Tebow. How many bad games must the starting quarterback have before New Yorkers put up a billboard begging for Rex Ryan to put good ol’ Timmy behind center so he can work his magic? Will it ever happen, or does New York have smart football fans that have the sensibility to know that it might not be the best idea to pull a proven quarterback for the circus that is Tim Tebow.

I would like to know who thinks that Tebow would be a better choice than Mark Sanchez. We all know that the people of Denver wanted to see the former BCS champion step onto the field but that was because that had a less than adequate quarterback in Kyle Orton. Kyle Orton is a good game manager at best. He has his moments of decent quarterback play, but we all know that his position in the NFL is a back-up. He is now the backup in Dallas and it seems that he is happy with that. So now we must ask how Mark Sanchez stands up against Kyle Orton and how the Denver fans stack up against the New York fans.

Mark Sanchez has his moments of ineptitude that make you doubt his ability as a starting quarterback and wonder if maybe he would be better in a backup role like Kyle Orton. However, those moments are few and far between and I would much rather have a bad Mark Sanchez than an above average Kyle Orton any day of the week. The reason being, that Mark Sanchez is more of a fighter than Orton, not to mention that he has more talent. The fans know this in New York and Denver alike. So what will be the stipulations that get Tim Tebow a starting role on the Jets?

Personally, I don’t think that it will ever happen for Tebow, not with the Jets at least and it is because of the fans. They have seen what kind of quarterback that Tim Tebow is and they know that he is not a long term answer for any team at any time. The Broncos were pressured to put in Tim Tebow because the fans chanted his name at every game. The fans put up billboards begging the coaches to play Tebow. The reason they wanted him in so bad was because he was so good in Florida. They thought that he could bring some of that magic to the NFL and magic he brought. The problem is that it is magic and not talent that won him games in Denver. Everybody knows that that magic won’t last forever and when it runs out Tim Tebow will be just another great college quarterback who wasn’t able to make things transfer into the NFL.

After last season, every NFL fan was able to see what Tebow was capable of and that is why a majority of Broncos fans kept quiet when the Broncos snatched up one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the NFL. They wanted what was best for the team. The Jets fans want what’s best for the team. Whether or not Jets fans would have chanted Tebow’s name last year if the tables were turned and Tebow was on their team is a tough question. I would have to say that they wouldn’t have because the fans of New York are a little more educated about what constitutes a good pro quarterback and they understand that Tebow’s style will not have long term success. The people of Denver were just looking for a hero. They wanted their quarterback to be a “good guy”. They thought he was such a good guy that he must be a good quarterback. Fortunately, the people in the Bronco’s front office understood that he was not the answer and now the Tebow circus is in New York and for that I would like to say, “Thank you John Elway.”
